Sought in Federal Escape Charge, Armed Robbery
EAGLE PASS, Texas – Last night Shane Vernon Stull, 37 of Granger, Texas was arrested by members of the Lone Star Fugitive Task Force with critical assistance from US Department of Homeland Security-HSI, Office of Field Operations, at the Camino Real International Bridge.
Stull was the subject of a local central Texas manhunt last month by the Austin based Lone Star Fugitive Task Force and the Williamson County Sheriff’s Office. Stull was sought on a federal Escape charge when he walked-away from a Bureau of Prisons facility and failed to return. While on the lamb, Stull was charged in Williamson County with Armed Robbery when he allegedly robbed a local convenience store in Taylor, Texas where he produced a firearm, subsequently discharging the firearm, narrowly missing the clerk. Stull fled with approximately five-hundred dollars in cash.
Information was developed by the Austin based task force indicating Stull was attempting to avoid apprehension by fleeing to Piedras Negras, Coahuila, Mexico. The investigation was transitioned to the Del Rio based fugitive task force, and through cooperative and coordinated efforts, enlisted assistance from their law enforcement partners in the Republic of Mexico.
Stull was detained by Mexican authorities and presented to officials where it was determined Stull had no status to remain in the Republic of Mexico. Stull was immediately expelled by Mexican immigration authorities and remanded to US law enforcement at the Eagle Pass Port of Entry.
Robert R. Almonte, United States Marshal for the Western District of Texas states, “Working with our law enforcement partners from the Republic of Mexico illustrates the importance that we cooperate so we can keep our border communities safe. I applaud their efforts and thank them for their continued support.”
