The Special Meeting of Maverick County Commissioner's Court began with a plea by the Maverick County Environmental and Public Health Association for the county to continue forward with their lawsuit against the Dos Republicas open coal mine which County Judge David Saucedo said they would continue to keep the best interests of the citizens of Eagle Pass and Maverick County in this matter.

Detention Center
The Texas Commission on Jail Standards is awaiting word from Maverick County on when to move forward with their inspection of the Maverick County Detention Center in order for MCSO to move all of their prisoners to the new facility.
According to Shannon Herklotz, Assistant Director for Inspections & Jail Management, they have walked the facility, but have not inspected it.

A multi-agency sting took place on Wednesday morning on the southeast corner of Laredo and Roosevelt streets early Wednesday morning as over ten SWAT-equipped officers dressed in camouflage with assault rifles descended on the residence which was surrounded by unmarked law enforcement vehicles along with officers from the Texas Department of Public Safety were seen at approximately 7:30 AM.
According to Michelle Lee, Media Coordinator for the San Antonio FBI, Michael Cardona, 30 years of age, resident of Eagle Pass, Texas was charged on 4/16/2014 with Conspiracy to Possess Cocaine with intent to distribute and Possession of cocaine with intent to distribute.
Xavier Cardona, 35 years of age, resident of Eagle Pass, Texas was charged on 4/16/2014 with Conspiracy to Possess Cocaine with intent to distribute.
Both men were arrested Wednesday, without incident, in Eagle Pass by the FBI, with assistance from Texas Department of Public Safety, US Customs and Border Protection, and the US Drug Enforcement Administration.
Detention hearings are scheduled on Monday April 28, 2014 at 9AM before Judge Victor Garcia in Del Rio.
