El gran grupo de jinetes de toda la región se dirige al espectáculo de Rodeo y Stock de San Antonio y forman parte de la Cabalgata Internacional La Grande.

El paseo tradicional que dura aproximadamente una semana va en su vigésimo año y ha crecido anualmente.

Otros grupos de jinetes se unirán a la cabalgata mientras se dirigen hacia San Antonio, Texas.

Este año, el alcalde de la ciudad de Eagle Pass, Ramsey English Cantu y representantes de Coahuila lideraron el grupo mientras cruzaban hacia el territorio de los Estados Unidos.

Se espera que el Grupo llegue a San Antonio el 6 de febrero, el día en que se inicie el show de Stock y el Rodeo.

Hundreds of people mounted their horses friday morning and gathered at the City of Eagle Pass/Piedras Negras, Coahuila border to begin their 200-mile journey into San Antonio, TX. on horseback.

The large group of riders from across the region are headed to the San Antonio Rodeo and Stock show and are part of the Cabalgata Internacional La Grande.

The traditional trail ride which takes about a week is going on its 20th year and has grown annually.

Other groups of riders will be joining the Cabalgata as they msje their way towards San Antonio Texas.

This year City of Eagle Pass Mayor, Ramsey English Cantu and Coahuila representatives led the group as they crossed into United States territory.

The Group is expected to arrive in San Antonio on February 6 the day the Stock show and Rodeo kickoff.

El detective jefe de MCSD, Efrain Valdez, informó que están investigando dos casos diferentes en los que se robaron tres motocicletas.

El primer robo ocurrió en el Sector La Heradura de la comunidad cuando sujetos desconocidos robaron una Kawasaki 2009 y una motocicleta Yamaha 2001 con un valor estimado de alrededor de $ 2,500.

Valdez agregó que una motocicleta Yamaha 2003 fue reportada como robada de una casa en el área de la comunidad de Siesta Acres.

El Departamento del Sheriff del Condado de Maverick está buscando averiguar quién fue responsable de los robos.

The Maverick County Sheriff's Department is currently investigating the theft of several motorcycles.

MCSD Head Detective Efrain Valdez reported that they are investigating two different cases where three motorcycles were stolen.

The first robbery occurred in the La Heradura Sector of the community when unknown subjects stole a 2009 Kawasaki and a 2001 Yamaha motorcycle with an estimated value of about $2,500.

Valdez added that a 2003 Yamaha motorcycle was reported stolen from a home in the Siesta Acres area of the community.

The Maverick County Sheriff's Department is looking to find out who was responsible for the thefts.

Eagle Pass City Secretary Imelda Rodriguez is pleasantly surprised at the voter turnout.

Tuesday, January 28 was the final day of early voting with the vote count coming in at 3,234 votes cast.

That total has already surpassed the entire voting totals for the 2013 and 2017 City Mayoral and Council elections, which saw outgoing Mayor Ramsey E. Cantu and Councilmen Luis Sifuentes and Rudy Villalpando getting reelected.

Voter interest is coming from everywhere. So much that on Monday, January 28 approximately 100 people were turned away from voting because they live outside the City limits.

“This is a great sign that people are interested in what occurs in city elections,” said Mayoral candidate Luis Sifuentes.

The 2020 city special election has garnered interest from the voter not seen since the 1980s when Attorney David Riojas ran for City Council.

At this point, approximately 20% of the eligible city voter (16,000) have come out to vote.

Throughout the early voting period there have been many people who had their heart set on voting in the city election, but were told they could not because it's designated for voters who reside within city limits.

“We just want people to come out and exercise their freedom to vote,” said Elizabeth Chisum, candidate for City Council.

All candidates are hoping that the city voter comes out on election day and cast their vote for whomever it may be, just as long as they exercise their freedom to do so.

It's expected that close to 3,900 voters will cast their ballot by the end of the final day of voting on Saturday, February 1. Polls will be open from 7:00 am to 7:00 pm.

 

A lo largo de los años, uno de los mayores problemas con los que se han enfrentado los funcionarios encargados de hacer cumplir la ley es el exceso de velocidad de los vehículos.

El Jefe Guajardo reconoce que el exceso de velocidad continЬa siendo uno de los principales problemas y razones por las que los conductores son detenidos y multados en la Ciudad de Eagle Pass.

Durante el mes de diciembre hubo mas de 135 violaciones de exceso de velocidad adjudicadas a través de la corte Municipal de la Ciudad.

Eso promedia alrededor de 4 multas por exceso de velocidad por día.

Esto sigue siendo un problema grave debido a los problemas que puede ocasionar el exceso de velocidad, que incluyen mayores riesgos de accidentes automovilísticos, otro gran problema en nuestra comunidad.

"Tenga precaución al conducir y no acelere cuando esté al volante de un vehículo", dijo el jefe Guajardo.

Se informa que agentes federales y estatales allanaron una casa rodante en la que al menos tres personas fueron detenidas.

Se cree que la movilización está relacionada con las drogas.

No se ha proporcionado más información sobre la redada en la que participaron numerosos agentes y un helicóptero.

 

Raid in Rosita

Valley nabs three

 

Law Enforcement officials raided a home in the Rosita Valley sector of the community in the early morning hours of Wednesday.

It's reported that federal and state agents raided a trailer home in which at least three people were detained.

The mobilization is believed to be drug related.

No further information has been provided regarding the raid that had numerous agents and an enforcement helicopter involved.

Los agentes llegaron y encontraron a un hombre de 56 años sangrando por una puñalada en la pierna izquierda.

Los oficiales proporcionaron los primeros auxilios de inmediato hasta que una unidad de EMS para llevar a la víctima a la sala de emergencias para el tratamiento de su herida. Mientras prestaba ayuda a la víctima, se vio a una mujer salir de la residencia y fue identificada como la agresora.

Friday, January 24, 2020, 1:09 PM: Patrol units responded to a residence within the 900 block of Avenue A in regards to a stabbing.

Officers arrived and found a 56-year-old male bleeding from a stab wound to his left leg.

First aid was immediately re dered by officers until an EMS unit arrived to transport the male victim to the emergency room for treatment of his wound.

While rendering aid to the vic im, a female was seen exiting the residence and was identified as the aggressor.

The female identified as 27- year-old Damiana Garza was arrested and charged before a magistrate with a first-degree felony of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and remanded to the Tom Bowles

Detention Center in lieu of a $10,000.00 bond.

El incidente ocurrió el sábado cuando la víctima discutía con otra mujer. Un sujeto masculino intervino y la golpeó en la cabeza.

El Departamento del Sheriff del Condado de Maverick habló con la víctima y ha identificado a un asaltante.

Esperan afectar un arresto en los días siguientes.

A Maverick County female resident received medical assistance at the Fort Duncan Regional Medical Centers Emergency Room after she was hit on the head with the stock of a gun.

The incident occurred on Saturday when the victim was arguing with another female. A male subject intervened and struck her on the head.

Maverick County Sheriff's Department spoke to the victim and have identified an assailant.

They expect to affect an arrest in the following days.

The victim did report that a subject threatened her with a gun and hit her on the head.

The subject will be charged with aggravated assault with a weapon.

El individuo fallecido había sido identificado como Mario Alberto Villanueva, de 38 años, que conducía un GMC 2009.

Las autoridades afirman que el accidente ocurrió alrededor de las 6:00 a.m.

Los funcionarios encargados de hacer cumplir la ley respondieron a una llamada de emergencia con respecto a un accidente de vehículo. Al llegar a la escena, los oficiales encontraron los restos.

Eagle pass man dies

Law Enforcement Authorities in Dimmit County reported that a headon collision between a commercial vehicle and a pickup truck was recorded on Monday morning on Highway 85 near the town of Big Wells, in Dimmit County, which left a a resident from Eagle Pass dead.

The deceased individual had been identified as 38- year-old Mario Alberto Villanueva who was driving a 2009 GMC.

Authorities state that the accident occurred at around 6:00 am. Law Enforcement officials responded to an emergency call regarding a vehicle accident. Upon arriving at the scene officers found the wreckage.

The 18 wheeler ended on its side while the pick-up truck was completely destroyed.

Unfortunately the driver of the pick up truck died from injuries sustained in the accident.

The accident is being investigated by the Texas Department of Public Safety.

Tenemos 3 condados diferentes (Maverick, Dimmit y Zavala) que maneja el Sr. Serna. Y a través de todo este proceso, el Sr. Serna ha cumplido la ley y el orden con la asistencia y ayuda de las agencias de aplicación de la ley ”, dijo Ruiz.

“Creo firmemente que cuando algo no está roto no hay necesidad de arreglarlo. El Sr. Serna ha hecho un muy buen trabajo. Quiero decir que muchas veces he juzgado casos contra el Sr. Serna porque no estamos de acuerdo con los hechos. Pero ya sea que gane o pierda lo que yo he hecho, y él también, lo principal es esa ley y el orden, y el cumplimiento de los juicios ha sido cumplido por la oficina del Sr. Serna ".

"Humildemente les pido que se unan a mí y apoyen al Sr. Roberto Serna", concluyó el abogado Ruiz. Roberto Serna ha estado sirviendo a la gente del área de los tres condados como Fiscal de Distrito durante 30 años.

El abogado Claudio Heredia también ha respaldado la candidatura de Serna para la reelección.

“He estado practicando derecho desde 1982, y he visto a lo largo de los años el trabajo que Roberto Serna ha hecho como nuestro Fiscal de Distrito.

Entonces puedo decirle a la comunidad que estoy totalmente a favor de su reelección.

Tiene 8 años de experiencia y es firme en representar a las comunidades a las que sirve ”, dijo Heredia.

Se informa que el conglomerado mexicano está en conversaciones con representantes de Ternium S.A., un fabricante de productos de acero plano y largo con centros de producción en Argentina, Brasil, México, Guatemala, Colombia y los Estados Unidos.

Aunque las conversaciones han estado en curso, nada se ha solidificado para que el acuerdo suceda.

Altos Hornos ha informado que están en algún tipo de conversaciones, pero no confirmarán que se llegue a un acuerdo.

La mina de carbón Dos Republicas, que ha estado en el centro de la controversia en nuestra comunidad, ha estado operando durante varios años, luego de que un derribo arrastró la batalla en los tribunales.

Los opositores de la mina continúan hablando en contra de su operación en cada oportunidad que han tenido.

La compañía minera podría cambiar de propietario si se llega a un acuerdo entre su actual propietario y el gigante siderúrgico brasileño.

Dos Republicas Coal Mine, a holdings of Altos Hornos of Mexico could possibly end up in the hands of a Brazilian company.

The Mexican Conglomerate is reported to be in talks with representatives of the Ternium S.A., a manufacturer of flat and long steel products with production centers in Argentina, Brazil, Mexico, Guatemala, Colombia, and the United States.

Although talks have been ongoing, nothing has been solidified to make the deal happen.

Altos Hornos has reported that they are in some type of talks but would not confirm a deal coming through.

The Dos Republicas Coal Mine, which has been at the center of controversy in our community has been operating for several years now, after a knock down dragged out battle in the courts.

Opponents of the mine continue speaking out against its operation at every opportunity they have had.

The mining company could be changing ownership if a deal is worked out between its current owner and the Brazilian steel giant.
